Berta Cáceres, Lenca environmental activist from Honduras, said a year before her assassination, "si nosotros no tienemos alegría en esto; entusiasmo y esperanza, estamos, como dicemos nosotras, muertas en vida" (which roughly translate to: "when we don't have happiness, enthusiasm, or hope in what we do; we are, as we say, the living dead").

Cáceres words echo deeply to remind us that what animates people to be creative, to be expressive, to mobilize & organize, to resist & refuse, to sing & lament our heart's experiences on this earth is love. & we cannot talk about love without talking about the loveless aspects of our experiences: capitalism, patriarchy, imperialism, white supremacy, alienation, environmental devastation & more & more & more.

but it is not the loveless aspects that Vientos tackles on, at least, not directly. Vientos samples Cáceres voice to ground their reflections & to emphasize the type of love they're seeking: a love that inspires the heart; that transforms perspective; that illuminates contradictions & smooths them out; that expands the heart in uncomfortable & uncompromising ways.

to talk about love is to be honest with why you're seeking love –– what loveless aspects of the world you encountered on the way to it –– how you seek it –– where you've been seeking it –– &, this is the most important one, who you've been while seeking love.

over the course of 24 minutes, Vientos weaves a genre-bending testimonial of love songs that defy tropes & clichés, & showcases their multi-dimensional reflections of who they've been on their way to love.
